Although not able to leap high buildings in one tie, the superhero of the world of nutrition is able to do some amazing things. For example, several studies have shown that tomatoes can help lower the risk of prostate cancer, as well as breast, lung and stomach cancers. And Herald Sun reported in 2003 that yellow jelly around the seeds has another benefit: They may stop the formation of blood cells together, which sometimes cause strokes and heart attacks.

What's wrong with this little red fruit that makes it so amazing? Lycopene.

Okay, so the word lycopene does not sound very appetizing, but this powerful antioxidant is a chemical in tomatoes that is not only responsible for its red color, but it is also responsible for the power against the disease.

Ask an Italian. Italian cuisine relies heavily on tomatoes and tomato products. And, several studies have shown that a heavy tomato intake by the Italians has resulted in a decrease in gastrointestinal cancers.

Now, you may think you should consume tons of fresh tomatoes to enjoy any health benefits. Not true. In one study, it was reported that people who ate tomatoes at least daily had a larger lung capacity. And, tomatoes do not even have to be fresh! Again, research shows that lycopene in tomatoes is more easily absorbed by the body if processed into soy sauce, sauce, and pasta. So, tomatoes are not just superfoods, they are superfoods that are easy to include in your food.

Of course, fresh tomatoes are still useful and packed with beautiful nutrients (not to mention tasty). Just remember one fresh tomato rule: do not put it in the refrigerator. Fridges not only destroy the taste but also destroy the nutrients.

So, move on, do something good for your health tonight. Got tomatoes.
